Tune up to avoid crashing down.

That being said, and looking ahead, taking precautionary measures now by contacting us for a winterizing maintenance tune-up is a great start. Winter weather can be hard on garage doors, leading to damage that can be costly to repair. From extreme cold temperatures to snow and ice, winter can cause a lot of damage to your garage door.

Fortunately, there are simple DIY accompanying steps to my general service you can take to minimize the damage and keep your garage door in good condition. Let's talk about how winter can affect your garage and what you can do to preserve the life of your entire system.

Cold creates common problems.

One of the most common winter-related problems with garage doors is freezing. When temperatures drop below freezing, the door's metal parts can become brittle and prone to cracking. This can cause the door to become stuck or even break. To prevent this from happening, it's important to keep the door well lubricated and to check the weather strip for any signs of wear or damage.

● What I will do is use the proper lubricating grease and products that won't cause the breakdown of your rollers, pulleys, or anywhere else required. Using the incorrect lubricating product causes an adverse drying effect, causing premature damage to the rollers

● The same can be said about weather stripping, as it is prone to cracking due to heat expansion and contraction. An ill-fitting seal will cause your door not to close properly, which then allows rain, snow, wind, and dirt inside your garage.

● A poorly applied weather-stripping material, if damaged or worn, can also cause your garage door panels to warp or bend and sometimes misalign altogether and then need to be straightened and leveled to close properly. If not taken care of, this domino effect will carry on further and break and bend hinge, plates, twist rails, and supporting struts.

Sealing out the ice.

Another issue that can arise during the winter months is snow and ice buildup. This can cause the door to become stuck or even break. To prevent this from happening, it's important to keep the door clear of snow and ice. You can do this by using a snow shovel or a snow blower to remove the snow and ice from the door.

By having me onsite, I can install a garage door sweep or seal. Garage door bottom seals are long strips of rubber or vinyl that attach to the bottom edge of your garage door. The seal will either attach to the door directly or slide into a plastic or aluminum bottom retainer that holds the seal in place and comes in many styles:

● L-Shape Door Sweeps.

● Pocket Door Bottom.

● Slide-On Door Sweeps.

● Snap-In Door Bottoms.

● Staple-On Door Bottom.

● Wrap-Around U-Shaped Door Bottom.

● Dust Plugs & Corner Pads.
