BROKEN WHEEL

WHEEL APPEAL

A broken garage door wheel should never leave you with images of being forced back into the stone age. It’s inconvenient, noisy, and annoying. Just bothersome enough to put a cramp in your everyday wear and tear on your garage door system. The real problem arises when you don’t take immediate action to remedy this common garage door malfunction. First off, a simple question to help you along your way. Do you know where to look to find them?

Door wheels or rollers: On the side of garage doors are small rollers or wheels. As the door is opened and closed, the wheels should turn freely inside the door tracks. A problem plaguing many garage door owners is the wheels can pop outside the tracking rail when the garage door is opened. If the door has come off its tracks in either the open or closed position, leave it alone. Attempting to close or open the door could result in the cables and springs also breaking. If the door is just being noisy, you need to have the rollers replaced, and the tracks cleaned. Often, stuck rollers are due to not enough lubricant or too much moisture.
Whether the rollers fully come off the track or whether the problem is a less serious but still annoying grinding or popping noise as the door is raised, you will want to promptly identify and fix the issue. Thankfully, there can be some cheaper and easy solutions with this type or service.

If applying lubricant and cleaning them doesn’t fix it, they should be changed. Old and worn rollers can be replaced easily. If you don’t want the hassle or concern, most dangerous to replace. If it is the bottom, give us a call. We’ll be there in a jiffy.

These simple maintenance and do-it-yourself measures can save an owner money and aggravation. A malfunctioning garage door is not only inconvenient, but it can also be dangerous. Taking early steps to fix any problems is key to avoiding more significant issues down the line.

  • Try a good cleaning of the wheels with a general-purpose cleaner, let them dry to avoid any corrosion and then apply a lubricant spray or paste
  • When the rollers aren’t lubricated, your garage door could cause friction and integral damage against it when it attempts to open and close, grinding against the rollers, sending it off track.
  • By trying the simple spray of lubricant, or even graphite powder, you’ll be on the go with after a few minutes sideline trip to your hardware store.
  • Once the door is above your head, it should be on the top section of the track. Now let go of the door and allow it to finish sliding into position.
